Solar Research: What Other Schools are Doing (presentation, website)

Internship Statement (April 2011)

My freshman year (2010-2011) I have had the pleasure to be a Renewable Energy Education Program (REEP) intern under the direction of Dr. Mary Finley-Brook, the Assistant Professor of Geography. This internship has given me and my fellow intern, Kaitlan Lawrence, the opportunity to explore renewable energy topics, conduct our own research, present our research, hear experts on renewable energy topics,  collaborate on a book review and help design and contribute to a website dedicated to renewable energy education.

My research subject of choice has been solar energy particularly on college/university campuses. My research has covered not only which schools are currently using solar energy, but also how the projects were funded, the positive and negative outcomes, constraining factors, student and faculty involvement and many other variables. I personally found student involvement and funding the most interesting to research and these are the areas I would choose to concentrate on. My research can easily be built upon by any other student interested in solar energy and I hope to be able to continue to expand it myself.
